“My Morena Girl” and “Kasadya Ning Taknaa” – Sumner Mahaffey
While serving in the Philippines Cebu Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, singer Sumner Mahaffey learned to speak Cebuano. He performs two songs in that language in this episode of Mormon Channel Studio.
The first, “My Morena Girl,” is a song of appreciation for the Filipino people. The second, “Kasadya Ning Taknaa,” is a traditional Cebuano song that kids may carol during Christmastime.
“The cool thing about the Philippines is that their culture isn’t about presents. It’s all about the family and the season. They actually remember the real meaning of Christmas. They’re so grateful even with little,” he says.
Mormon Channel Studio is a weekly video series featuring hymn arrangements and original music by LDS musicians from across the nation.
