President Joe Biden pays the Middle East a visit. But there’s controversy surrounding his trip, which comes as Beijing works to boost its influence in the region.

A successful hypersonic missile test was conducted off California’s coast, with more sophisticated testing coming later this year, as the United States and China race to develop the weapons systems.

The secretary of defense meets his Australian counterpart. Both are stressing the need for “rules-based order” in the Pacific.

Beijing is still negotiating with American regulators—trying to keep over 100 Chinese companies from getting delisted. But a top official from the Securities and Exchange Commission says he’s not convinced they’ll reach a deal.
