“Carson’s Song” and “Silent Night/The First Noel/What Child is This?” – Monica Scott

When pianist Monica Scott lost her nephew because he was born prematurely, she wrote “Carson’s Song” just for him. She performs it in this episode of Mormon Channel Studio.

“Before I had heard the news, I was tucking my own kids into bed that night and I had this melody in my mind. I didn’t think much of it. About five minutes later my mom called and said he had passed. The melody kept coming so I knew that was meant to be his. I wrote this as a little lullaby” she explains.

The Christmas medley she plays next is also in honor of a baby’s birth: that of Jesus Christ. In the song, she skillfully combines the tunes of “Silent Night,” “The First Noel,” and “What Child is This?”

Mormon Channel Studio is a weekly video series featuring hymn arrangements and original music by LDS musicians from across the nation.
