Feeding the Refugees in Beirut

When Antoinette was a young girl, her parents taught her to take care of those in need by giving them food and a place to stay. Her father told her that some day she should open a free restaurant for the hungry.

When thousands of refugees fled to her city years later, she opened the doors of her free restaurant. She assumed the service would only be needed for a week, but the restaurant has stayed open for over 30 years.

300 meals are prepared every day by volunteers. Some charitable associations provide financial help for the restaurant. LDS Charities provides food for the meals.

“What we do here isn’t something big. It is the least we can do, to help our fellowmen,” says Antoinette.

Jesus Christ taught that when we are serving others, we are serving Him.

“For I was hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in” (Matt. 25:35).
