How It’s Made: Cheese at Welfare Square

Did you know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints makes cheese at Welfare Square in Salt Lake City? Welfare Square is one of many locations where food is produced by the Church. The Church receives its milk from a farm in Utah and then processes it to make many foods with dairy in them, including blocks of cheese. Where does the cheese go? This cheese can be found at a bishops’ storehouse—a place where those in need can get food and other necessary items when they are in need. Where does the funding come from? Members of the Church fast—or don’t eat food—for 2 meals a month and donate the money they would have spent on food to help those in need. That is why you’ll see that love = cheese.
