How It’s Made: Mattresses at Deseret Manufacturing

Did you know that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints makes mattresses? These mattresses are sold—brand new—at our local thrift stores, called Deseret Industries. The mattresses are produced at Deseret Manufacturing—a facility that provides a work training environment for those who are looking to find or get a better job. Not only does the training help those in need, but the mattresses they make are often donated to those in need, such as those who are unemployed, those who have lost their belongings in a natural disaster, or recently resettled refugees. And where does the funding come from? Members of the Church fast—or don’t eat food—for 2 meals a month and donate the money they would have spent on food to help those in need. Why do they do it? Because they follow the counsel of the Savior to serve others.
