Joe Biden left a message for his son Hunter on Dec. 12, 2018, right after The New York Times published a story about Hunter’s business partner Ye Jianming, a princeling of China’s elite with rumored ties to the People’s Liberation Army.

Biden was relieved that The New York Times’ expose turned out to be more of a puff piece. And he had every reason to be relieved. Ye Jianming was the chairman of Chinese conglomerate China Energy CEFC, which at one point was one of the largest companies in all of China.

Ye was also Hunter’s patron, with millions of dollars of CEFC money going straight into Hunter’s bank account as well the account of Joe Biden’s brother, James Biden, supposedly for “international business development.”

In March 2018, Ye was arrested in China for so-called economic crimes. He has not been seen since.
