“REAL ID” Deadline Arrives — Do You REALLY Need to Get One?

The REAL ID Act, now in effect, mandates that U.S. travelers present a federally compliant ID, such as a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or passport, to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities. Noncompliant IDs will no longer be accepted at TSA checkpoints, potentially causing delays or denial of entry for those without proper identification. Travelers without a REAL ID may face additional screening or be barred from flying, though alternatives like passports are still valid.
