Scout Troop Learns that Helping Refugees is as Easy as Riding a Bike
For refugees new to the United States, transportation can be a huge obstacle. Not having been taught to drive and not having access to a car, they are often left on their own to figure out how to use public transportation. On top of that, they may not speak much if any English. Seeing the need, a local Boy Scout troop teamed up with the International Rescue Committee to build bikes for refugees in need of better transportation. Not only did the Scouts build the donated bikes; they worked one on one with the refugees to teach them how to ride the bikes. It turned out to be a bonding experience that the boys will never forget.
