Analyzing LDS Church History

Five major factors should be considered before one commits to believing historical source documents as completely valid or true. While we cannot fully understand what may have influenced the LDS historical statements, documents and memories of 200 years ago, we can (and probably should) reduce the chances of being misinformed as much as possible. This episode looks at the basic factors that can help determine credibility or risk when it comes to LDS source material.

Those 5 factors are:
1) Latency (3:06) – When did the event happen and how long after was it recorded?
2) Proximity (9:54) – Did the person witness the event?
3) Verbatim (11:13) – What level of detail was recollected?
4) Origination (15:37) – Is this an original source?
5) Incentives (19:30) – What biases or reasons to produce a witness might the source have?
