Illinois Officer Fatally Shoots Man Wielding Knife, Hammer

“DROP THE KNIFE!!” — A police officer from Waukegan, IL, fatally shot a man who refused to drop a knife and hammer after commands to do so. The officer responded to a call on August 24, 2022, about a man who allegedly lit his neighbors’ fence on fire and smashed their windows. When the officer arrived, the man began to approach him with a knife and hammer raised over his head. After refusing to drop both items, the officer shot the suspect.
