Landlords Against Freeloaders — Mom-&-Pop Property Owner Hurt by Eviction Moratorium
“ALL WE WANT TO DO IS LIVE IN OUR OWN HOME:” Los Angeles’ eviction moratorium — which is still in place — is pushing mom-and-pop property owners to the brink of foreclosure and bankruptcy. Liz Reckart, who’s family “used most of their life savings” to buy a home for their growing foster family, spoke recently at a City Hall news conference. “Our home has been stolen from us so that [our] tenants, one of whom owns a DeLorean, can go to Burning Man and rent yachts for birthday parties and sail up in hot air balloons,” Reckart said. Her tenants, “three guys in their 30s, who have not claimed a COVID hardship at all” are allegedly refusing to move out, blatantly “taking advantage” of the system.
