TikToker Risked $5K Fine, 6 Months in Prison for This STUNT
TAKE A MULLIGAN! TikTok star Katie Sigmond roused the ire of the internet on October 26 when she posted a video on her Snapchat story showing her hitting a golfball (and somehow losing part of her club) into the Grand Canyon. Although the post was deleted quickly, members of the public helped authorities identify her. Sigmond faced a variety of charges, including 6 months in prison, and even was ordered to make an appearance before the U.S. District Court in Flagstaff, Arizona. In the end, however, the 20-year-old only had to pay a fine for $285. “This is obviously an issue that we take really seriously,” Grand Canyon public affairs specialist Joëlle Baird told USA TODAY back in October. “Anytime we have individuals throwing, launching objects over the rim, there obviously is a public safety element of potential hikers, wildlife being below. Then also, of course, the littering aspect of throwing objects into the canyon.”
